Great Urban Parks Campaign Grant for Chickasaw Park
In 2018, Jefferson Memorial Forest was awarded a $195,000 grant from the National Recreational Parks and Recreation Association through their “Great Urban Parks Campaign”. This grant is being supported by the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District who is providing in-kind engineering support. The purpose of the grant is to implement certain elements of the West Louisville Outdoor Recreation Initiative master plan.
This grant funds construction documentation for improvements including restoration of Chickasaw Pond for safe use by the community for fishing, basic canoeing activities, environmental education and general passive use. It also will provide design documentation for the woodland areas and associated parking lot in the SW corner of the park which will include a nature play element, paths and visual Ohio River connectivity. Finally, the grant funds a modest of amount of construction of “green infrastructure” to improve water quality by controlling run-off from the project site, including drainage from Chickasaw Pond.
The following documents are provided to keep the community abreast of this project. Below are links to documents concerning issues examined in close consultation with community stakeholders, residents, and the general public. Please check back periodically to stay abreast of the project.
