LMAS Takes Precautions in Response to COVID-19

March 19, 2020
On the recommendation of the Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, Louisville Metro Animal Services is taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Animal control will only respond to serious incidents involving a human and domestic animal in-progress, or to assist first responders. LMAS remains open for adoptions, fosters, lost and found services, stray pet surrenders, pet licensing purchases/renewals, and penalty or violation payments during business hours from 12-6pm, Monday-Saturday.  For more information, click here.

LMAS has also taken the following precautions:

  • No more than 10 citizens will be allowed inside Animal House and the LMAS Shelter
  • Citizens must call the number posted outside the main entrance, to be let inside the shelter
  • Citizens are asked to wear a mask to protect staff and others
  • Citizens looking for their pet will be escorted into the LMAS Shelter, while maintaining a distance of 6-feet
  • Citizens adopting or fostering a pet will be escorted inside, while maintaining a distance of 6-feet
  • Citizens surrendering a stray animal will wait in their vehicle and a staff member will come out to take the animal
  • LMAS will only take in aggressive, owner-surrendered pets and animals who need to be humanely euthanized by veterinary staff
  • Drop boxes are located outside the entrances, where donations can be left during business hours

COVID-19 Procedures at Animal House:

Please, be patient and expect the adoption process to take longer due to COVID-19. Our staff must disinfect all areas and supplies, in-between customers. The process may also take longer, if you're interested in meeting more popular adoptable pets such as kittens, puppies or small breed dogs.
